چکیده

The formalism applied to superelastic electron scattering from laser-excited atoms has to date assumed perfect polarization of the laser light. We consider the effects of imperfect polarization, deriving an expression for the superelastic scattering rate from target atoms optically pumped with elliptically polarized light, and show how imperfect polarization effects can be measured and minimized under experimental conditions. In particular, we find that in measuring the scattering for linearly polarized light with a small circular component,

Superelastic electron scattering within a magnetic angle changer: determination of the angular momentum transferred during electron excitation over all scattering angles.

By utilizing superelastic electron scattering from laser-excited atoms within a new magnetic angle changing device, the differential cross sections for excitation of atoms by electron impact over the complete scattering geometry are determined for the first time. In the experiments described here, these techniques are combined to reveal the angular momentum transferred to calcium atoms during e...

Electron-atom superelastic scattering in magnesium at millielectron volt energies.

The energy dependence of superelastic scattering is measured for electrons on Mg(3(1)P) from threshold to 270 meV with a novel technique. The method uses photoelectrons produced by a narrow bandwidth laser as an approximately monoenergetic incident electron source to collide with excited atoms. Measurements are made at energies as low as 1.5 meV with a resolution of 1 meV near threshold. An eff...

Interaction of Laser Beam and Gold Nanoparticles, Study of Scattering Intensity and the Effective Parameters

In this paper, the optical properties of gold nanoparticles investigated. For this purpose the scattering intensity of a laser beam incident on gold nanoparticles has been studied using Mie theory and their respective curves versus different parameters such as scattering angle, wavelength of the laser beam and the size of gold nanoparticles are plotted. Investigating and comparison of the depi...

Towards Measurement of Polarization Properties of Skin using the Ellipsometry Technique

Introduction: The human skin is an active medium from the optical point of view. Therefore, the diagnostic and therapeutic techniques employing light are increasing. Current optical techniques are based on the measurement of the intensity of reflected absorbed or backscattered light from or within skin. Studies have shown that biological tissues, and in particular skin, demonstrate polarization...

A polarization-based Thomson scattering technique for burning plasmas

The traditional Thomson scattering diagnostic is based on measurement of the wavelength spectrum of scattered light, where electron temperature measurements are inferred from thermal broadening of the spectrum. At sufficiently high temperatures, especially those predicted for ITER and other burning plasmas, relativistic effects cause a change in the degree of polarization (P) of the scattered l...
